Save The Dates

A save the date notice is a standard event item that lets friends, family, and colleagues know, in advance, the date of a formal event. It typically states the date when and where a couple plans to marry, so that recipients will be able to plan ahead and keep that date free. Save the dates usually take the form of a card, but can also be a refrigerator magnet or similar item.

They are sent out at least 4-6 months and up to 1 year before the event date. The save the dates may provide a brief amount of information other than just the date of the event, and are customarily followed by a formal wedding invitation (or other event invitation). Like wedding invitations themselves, save the date cards follow a broadly-defined etiquette.

While save the dates may have originally been reserverd for weddings, they are now commonly used by individuals or corporations to announce formal events that inlcude: wedding anniversaries; corporate mergers, holiday parties, grand opening ceremonies; and birthdays, confirmations or bah/bar mitzvahs.
