Suggested Wording

We know just how busy brides & grooms are today and planning any event is a major undertaking. The bride and groom (family & friends) must decide on a place to hold the event, a band/DJ, flowers, food, negotiate times, and contracts. There are also engagement parties, showers, rehearsal dinners and sometimes more events related to your special occasion. Wedding stationery is the one constant that ties together all these events. Below, I have provided some suggested wording for the most common wedding events, such as for your invitation, save the date cards, engagement party invitations, wedding announcements, rehearsal dinner invitations, wedding shower invitations and wedding thank you notes. There are of course millions of ways to personalize your invitation. Following the general invitation format you might decide to write your very own text. For more wording options try our recommended wording tool (Verseit.com).

Thank You Stationary Ettiquette

There are a few etiquette rules in terms of how to sign your wedding thank you notes. Below, are examples of the more important rules.

* Prior to getting married, you should only write thank you notes for shower gifts on stationery that either has the bride's first name, full name or monogram. For example:

Gabrielle
Gabrielle Madison Turner
GMT

* Alternatively, stationery with only the bride's and groom's first names may be used prior to the wedding for any gift received. Many couples choose this option because it enables them to use the stationery for all occasions: their showers, their wedding and beyond. An example would be:

Gabrielle and Eric

* If the bride plans to keep her maiden name after she is married, she might consider using it on her wedding stationery as a signal to let everyone know how she plans to be addressed after the wedding. For example:

Gabrielle Turner and Eric Scott

* Thank you notes for wedding gifts should only be sent after the wedding. (Prior to the actual wedding day, you can either write the thank you note and wait until your wedding day to mail it or use stationery with the bride's maiden name or the bride's and groom's first names only.) Examples of how to write the bride's and groom's names on thank you notes include:

Mr. and Mrs. Eric T. Scott
the most formal option includes the groom's middle initial
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Scott
very common, but somewhat less formal
Gabrielle and Eric Scott
casual
Dr. Gabrielle and Mr. Eric Scott
when the bride is a doctor and plans to take her husband's last name
Drs. Gabrielle and Eric Scott
if both the bride and groom are doctors
